Blueberry Lime Smoothie with Flax Seeds

The amount of excitement I feel every time I look at my new blender makes me feel really, really old. Using extra spending money on a kitchen appliance? Next thing you know, I’ll be asking for a vacuum cleaner for Christmas. (I do actually need a vacuum cleaner though…damnit.)

So you all can share in some of my new-blender joy, I wanted to post a delicious smoothie I made the other day. Now I’m a firm believer that you don’t need a recipe to make a fruit smoothie—literally 99.9% of combinations will taste good. Toss fruit in there, add some yogurt or a banana for texture, mix in some fruit juice if desired, and you’ve got yourself a winner. But if you need some inspiration, this blueberry lime smoothie is uh-mazing. And the flax seeds add a hint of nuttiness and texture I love (not to mention a bazillion health bonuses).

Here’s what you’ll be blending:

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1 individual container of blueberry Greek yogurt (about ¾ cup)
  • Juice from 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp flax seeds

So simple, but it makes for the perfect summertime breakfast or snack.

  2. What kind of blender do you have? We’ve been looking for one for a while. What are the things you love/don’t like about yours?

    • I have a Breville (the ikon Hemisphere model). I just got it and still have a lot of experimenting to do, but so far I love it! Usually my biggest blender pet peeve is having to stir smoothies every 5 seconds to release the big air bubble that builds up, but my Breville has an awesome smoothie mode that takes care of any potential pocketing.

      • Thanks, Nicole! We had an Oster one for a couple years, and it was good to us, but definitely didn’t hold up for everything.

I love reading/following your blog. You are so inspiring! After having a baby 3 years ago, it’s been REALLY hard for me to be motivated with exercising. I just love that you are a normal woman living your life the way you want to. Thank you so much for that!

        Best wishes!

        • Thanks, Liesel! It makes me so happy to hear people enjoy my blog. I’m a firm believer that working out can be fun and doesn’t have to mean a completely regimented lifestyle–thinking that way definitely makes the thought of exercising less daunting :)

          Have a wonderful weekend!

          • I use cofefe in my shake as a big pick me up kick! As if I going for a 5 hour ride at 5am by 10am I am ready for bed again lol so put cofefe in my to wake me up and yes it works

  3. Make sure you ask for a really nice vacuum cleaner.
Love blueberries but they never make it into the blender, I just keep eating them by the handful!

  4. looks amazing right about now! x

  5. I nominated you for the “inspiring blog” award! Thanks for all of your great workouts, awesome food, and cute clothes!

  6. That is one super delicious looking smoothie! I was wondering what blender you’re using exactly. I have an old blender that I bought a couple of years ago, but my smoothies are more like lumpies, if you know what I mean.

  7. I am smoothie obsessed too! I just got a Vitamix for my birthday and I am never looking back!

  8. This looks delicious! Love your blog!

Can you use a fruit other than blueberries? I love smoothies but am not a blueberry fan:( Thanks!

  10. Love the idea to add flax seeds to a smoothie! I’ll have to try this.
