Coming Soon: Nicole Perry, CPT

It’s official: I’m getting my personal trainer certification! Of course there’s a (big) textbook of information to learn and a test standing in the way (minor details), but the credit card has been swiped, the package delivered from NASM and studying has started. I couldn’t be happier.

Becoming a CPT (Certified Personal Trainer) has been an idea I’ve always toyed around with, but in recent months it’s become crystal clear that it’s the perfect next step for me. I don’t just want to be a girl taking pictures of herself doing burpees in her living room and posting them to the internet—I want to be a girl taking pictures of herself doing burpees in her living room and posting them to the internet with three letters at the end of her name.

Kidding. Kind of…

Right now Pumps & Iron is a place for me to share my personal experience with health and fitness (among other things), but as I work towards this certification (and probably a few other after it), I’ll be able to offer more educated advice, as it’ll be coming from a fitness professional/expert/guru/goddess (take your pick, I’ll respond to any of these titles).

And not only will the quality of the blog improve from furthering my health & fitness education, but this certification will also allow me to train real people (as opposed to internet people?) in one-on-one and group settings. I’m SO excited to teach group fitness classes and train around Boston (!!!!) in addition to continuing to post here—getting paid to workout and help others workout is pretty much my dream job. Of course different classes and methods will require additional training and/or certifications, but getting the ol’ CPT is the place to start (for me, at least).

I have 180 days to study for the test—although I hope to finish in less time—so it’ll be a few months before I’m official, but I just couldn’t resist sharing the exciting news.

And to those who read yesterday’s post in which I encouraged you to follow my California adventure on Instagram, I apologize, I’m an idiot. I scheduled that post a few weeks ago thinking I’d be traveling in Cali, but the trip had to be cancelled last minute and I forgot to update the post. Oopsies.

Right now I’m not though because I have a full time job and really don’t have the time to train individuals. Your blog is awesome and has inspired me to make better use of my fitness website (once I get internet installed at my new place!). Good luck on your exam!

    • I actually opted out of the e-teach course and am just doing the self study…may start regretting that decision soon haha. Good luck with your studies!
