Ever since getting a juicer, I find myself playing Can I Juice That? every time I walk into a grocery store. Can I juice bread? What about ice cream? I bet I could get almond butter through the juicer. And I’m only half kidding about that last one…
When I was walking through Trader Joe’s the other day and spotted some starfruit, I naturally couldn’t resist. I can definitely juice those!
I did some starfruit research because, well, when you’ve been one month without a smartphone, you have to resort to some weird things to keep yourself busy. Turns out, starfruit is known to stimulate milk flow in nursing mothers, which is totally irrelevant to my life, but can be used as a painfully awkward conversation starter at cocktail parties. It also is said to reduce fever, help cure hangovers (noted!), suppress coughs, lower cholesterol and battle kidney infections (unless you have a history of kidney stones, in which case you should avoid starfruit because of its high content of oxalic acid). Rock on, starfruit…
Starfruit and greens make for a refreshing, nutritious juice.
- 2 starfruits
- 1 inch ginger root
- ½ cucumber
- 1 small lemon
- 1 head of romaine lettuce
- Run all ingredients through your juicer.
