Real Golfers Wear Pink Tourney

Real Golfers Wear Pink TourneyI really put the “labor” in Labor Day Weekend these past few days. Joe and I moved stuff out of storage into our new place; survived trips to IKEA, Target and two to Best Buy; and I singlehandedly assembled a huge dresser and couch (I’ve found that our relationship is healthiest when furniture assembly is a solitary task LOL). I feel so relieved to have the grunt work of moving out of the way but holy sh*t does my body need a yoga class tonight!

Before I get back to unpacking, I want to recap the fun day I had last Monday at the Real Golfers Wear Pink tournament benefiting The Ellie Fund. I’ve been to several Ellie Fund events in the past and they’re always a great time for an amazing cause (they provide support services for breast cancer patients). When Al Fresco invited me to join three other local bloggers (Sarah from Sarah Fit, Tina from Carrots ‘n Cake and Jessica from 30 Something Mother Runner) on a team, it was an immediate “Yes!” followed promptly by a “Wait … I can’t play golf.” For real, never once played . Putt putt, sure. Driving range, yeah a couple times. Golf golf … errr does memorizing the words to Happy Gilmore count?

I was relieved to find out it would be a scramble format and that none of the other ladies had much experience either. That being said, I still strongly locked up the title of LVP. Like no question, absolutely the worst golfer on the course that day and quite possibly ever in the history of Wollaston Golf Club [insert cry-laughing emoji]. Real Golfers Wear Pink Tourney

I probably put the ball in the above picture in the pond. And not even the closer of the two ponds. Right passed the hole that’s seven inches from my damn feet and into the body of water far off yonder in the distance. #skillz

Despite (or maybe because of??) my deplorable golfing ability, I had a blast–so many laughs. The event started out with lunch and a big raffle for local prizes (I won a gift card to flour!) and then we hit the course. There was a huge turnout with about 30 teams of four. We were set to tee off first which provided the team behind us with some quality entertainment (massive chunks of grass flying into the air, swings completely missing the ball altogether, etc.). It was a rough start but our game definitely improved as we went–for the other girls, anyway. I’m hopeless. 😉

Lucky for our score, at one of the holes they had an airgun that would shoot the golf ball all the way to the putting green. Hey, a birdie’s a birdie, ok?! After 18 holes I had to head back into the city, but there was a big catered dinner at the golf club for all the tournament participants. It was a fun day with beautiful weather and great company.

A big thanks to Al Fresco for having me! If you guys are unfamiliar with their products, Joe LOVES their Tomato & Basil Chicken Meatballs. I (ironically?) haven’t been eating meat lately, but when I cook spaghetti squash for dinner I’ll add in those meatballs for Joe’s dish.

How’s your golf game? Have you ever played in a tournament?
