Grapefruit Mimosas with Frozen Berries (+Giveaway)

Happy Friday! This weekend I turn 29 (what??) and I fully plan on celebrating with a couple of these champagne cocktails at Sunday brunch. A traditional mimosa is made with orange juice, but I’ve always preferred grapefruit juice (trust me). Adding frozen berries makes for a pretty and delicious garnish while also keeping the drink chilled. Just three ingredients so it’s a totally doable cocktail if you’re hosting guests or celebrating a special occasion.

You’ll get sweetness from the berries and juice, so I’d stay away from using a sweet champagne or sparkling wine for mimosas. I’m using Belaire Brut (this isn’t a sponsored post, but they did send me a gift package of bubbly–thanks, Belaire!). With champagne and sparkling wine, “brut” means it’s dry or unsweetened. Belaire is a great option because it’s champagne quality at half the cost. After all, unless you’re Lil’ Wayne, you wouldn’t dilute a ridiculously expensive bottle of champagne with fruit juice. 😉

Grapefruit Mimosas with Frozen Berries

Grapefruit Mimosas with Frozen Berries

  • Brut champagne (or sparking wine of choice)
  • Grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed or bottled, but avoid sweetened juices)
  • Berries of choice (raspberries, blackberries, strawberries)*

  1. If you buy fresh berries, put them in an airtight container in the freezer the night before you plan to enjoy the mimosas.
  2. The ratio of champagne to grapefruit juice should be roughly 2:1 or 1:1, depending on your taste preference.
  3. Drop in a couple frozen berries and enjoy!

*You can buy frozen berries, but if you're concerned about presentation, I'd recommend buying fresh berries and then freezing them overnight yourself (they'll look "prettier").

If you’re hosting a daytime event, you could use this basic combo (champagne + fruit juice + frozen berries) to set up a make-your-own mimosa bar. Set out the champagne, juice options (I’d recommend orange juice, grapefruit juice and pomegranate juice) and frozen berry options (raspberries, strawberries, blackberries). Let guests create their own mixture–really can’t go wrong with any of those combos!

  1. I’m pretty lame and like a basic cranberry and vodka, and those are usually few and far between. Mostly, I’m a craft beer girls. Sours and stouts are my thing. 🙂

  2. Grapefruit mimosas sound kind of amazing. I never would have thought to sub something else in for the orange juice.

  3. I love a good glass of wine or a moscow mule!

  4. Mimosa or Margarita!

  5. I like gim gimlets and most things fizzy

  6. Mimosas! So this post is pretty perfect 🙂 I haven’t tried the grapefruit juice yet though, I usually just do OJ. Thanks for the great idea!

  7. Jenn Bollenbacher says:

I’ve been loving moscow mules lately, but I think mostly because of the ice, ha. And I found a recipe for a vodka/champagne cocktail that I want to try for the Golden Globes this weekend!

  8. My favorite mocktail is tart cherry juice and seltzer with a lime!

  9. Hi Nicole! Fav cocktail…a mimosa!! alcoholic or virgin…both are amazing 🙂

  10. I really love gin & tonics. But if I see a French 75 on the menu, that’s definitely what I’m getting. It’s champagne, gin, lemon juice and sugar. It’ll get you buzzed quick, but it’s so good!

  11. Stephanie says:

My favorite cocktail is a Moscow Mule! Ginger beer, lime, and vodka- easy and delicious!

  12. I love mimosas but just a splash of juice for color! Lol. I love your idea of adding frozen berries, I’ll have to try that next time. My other favorite cocktail (if I’m focusing on health that week) is a good vodka with water over ice and lots of fresh lemon. I say ‘good’ vodka because it’ll taste better and won’t give you an intense hangover the next day. Cheers!

  13. Shoshana Rose says:

Now that it’s winter, I love a hot toddy. A little goes a long way for me!

  14. Vodka soda with a squeeze of lime is my go to!

  22. Since it’s winter I have been enjoying mulled wine. So good on a cold night. In the summer, it’s usually sangria or a beer. Beer is really an anytime drink. HA!

  23. Ive been on a Moscow mule kick!

  24. Oh man, this is an awesome giveaway! I’m currently preggo but dreaming about the day when I’ll be able to have a mimosa again. I’m a huge fan of just champagne with a few frozen berries or cherries dropped in. So delicious!

  26. marg made with fresh squeezed lime juice 🙂

  27. Danielle Morin says:

My favorite cocktail is a sangria in the summer or sex on the beach! Anything sweet.

  28. Stephanie K says:

I really love a good mimosa. I can also imagine using brut as the alcoholic ‘base’ to a ‘take’ on a sangria–lemonade, a bit of fresh-squeezed tangerine juice, some fresh squeezed lime juice, and then brut instead of the usual.

OR I can imagine putting brut in an ice cube tray, freezing it, and making a ‘take’ on a mimosa with less champagne in the glass and then champagne ice cubes put in the glass! That would be so much fun to try…hmm…and I *am* getting married Labor Day Weekend, which means that i have a bridal shower, a bachelorette party, etc. as PERFECT excuses to play with champagne!!!

  29. For me, it would have to be bellini all day!

  30. Love an old fashioned, or anything with rye whiskey!

  31. I love Mimosas.

  32. Mojitos are my favorite.

  33. This time of year, a Poinsettia!

  35. Lately my go to has been whiskey and water! It sounds like it would be really gross, but I promise it’s not. I also always love a good vodka soda with grapefruit.

  36. Paige Davis says:

My go-to is a classic Moscow Mule. “Little” bit of vodka, fresh lime juice, and ginger beer to give it that funky fizz!

  37. Hmm tough choice, but I do like mimosas!

  38. I don’t get out enough, but when I do, I ask the bartender for recommendations. I like drinks with ginger beer and fruity sangrias.

  39. I love a good mimosa but I’ll have to try one (or a few!) with grapefruit juice!

  40. Strawberry margarita with champagne added to it. Sounds weird but it’s AMAZING!

I really love a good margarita on the rocks or a mojito.

  42. Those look beautiful and so delish. Mimosa’s are totally my favorite, too!

  43. I love a gin and tonic with loads of lime. Or a tequila shot 😉

Brut is the way to go for champagne. Would love to try a sparkling rose and the “luxe” bottle is intriguing.

  52. I’m a margarita girl 🙂 But I like my own… not over sugar-y restaurant margs!

  70. Margarita’s for sure!

  71. Mimosas!!!

  75. French 75 – Gin, champagne, lemon or lime juice and a sugar cube!

  76. I don’t have a favorite cocktail but I love a good mimosa. I will have to try making them with grapefruit juice!

  77. I love Bellini’s!

  78. Lately I have been enjoying old fashioneds, but I have been craving sparking wine in a major way since NYE!

  79. I fancy a poinsettia cocktail when I want to switch things up from a plain ‘ol mimosa. A poinsettia cocktail is a mixture of champagne, Cointreau (or Triple Sec), and cranberry juice.

  80. Moscow Mule’s are my favorite!!!!!

  81. I normally stick to wine and/or vodka sodas, but there is an AMAZING martini bar in my town and they serve The Pool Boy, which is habanero vodka with mango puree, triple sec and lime juice.
