statement platform wedges

Before I get to these crazy shoes, I just want to say “hello again, Good-looking!” to my e-mail subscribers who are receiving a pumps & iron post for the first time in a while. There were a couple kinks to iron out when the site migration that went on, but we’re back in action! If you missed it, check out yesterday’s Olympic Workout post.

I got these striped platform wedges this past Christmas, and although I got some strange looks from my family members as I unwrapped them, I think they’re uh-mazing.

These puppies are a fun way to spice up a heavily neutral outfit (like I’m wearing in this post) and also have great potential for masters of mixing prints (a skill I haven’t quite grasped yet).

I went the bohemian route today, but I also love pairing them with dark skinny jeans and a blazer for a more polished look. I’ve even convinced myself they qualify as “business casual” and have worn them to the office a few times. I’m a gold-medal Olympian at convincing myself impractical things are practical

jump(suit)ing around

Immediately after taking these photos I had one big styling regret: the Michele watch. Who wears a diamond-face watch with a leather wristband to THE BEACH? Assholes and Real Housewives of Orange County. That’s who.

So we’re just going to pretend I’m not wearing the watch as we scroll through this post…

This jumpsuit is tricky because of the impossibility of wearing a bra and its inclination for wedgies, but it’s oh-so-cute for summer and definitely worth the occasional adjustments needed to pull it off.

Pairing it with heels gives it a dressy, trendy edge, but for today’s walk along the Gay Head Cliffs, I went the casual route with these ruffle sandals. I mean, I already blew it with the watch, I certainly wasn’t going to try and make a pair of pumps work at the beach. I’m not that delusional.

mint & lace

I channeled my inner Barney for this outfit. The dinosaur, not the high-end department store. Mint is huge this season and these purple pumps are also huge…6” to be exact. It seemed like a perfect match.

I absolutely adore the city of Boston, but my one complaint is that not enough people wear heels. (I say “people” and not “girls” because if the Real Housewives of Atlanta taught me anything it’s that a man can WORK IT in a pair of stilettos). I don’t like the fact that I’m totally out of place most nights when I put on 5-6 inchers. Does it completely stop me? No. But it’s definitely the reason these bright, fun pumps don’t get worn more often.

What do you guys think of the mint trend? I’ve never had a ton of green in my closet, but I’m loving the shade.

star spangled for the fourth of july

Excuse me while I go curl up in a ball in a dark corner somewhere and slip into a deep depression over the fact that it’s rainy and disgusting outside today. Why the 4th of July of all days?!

It’ll still be a fun day off with friends and family, but thanks to this gross weather, today’s outfit is coming to you straight from a screened-in porch (so exotic).

Fourth of July outfits are some of my favorites because I love all things nautical, and blue and white are, by far, my favorite colors. Half my closet is white and the other half is some shade of blue. This holiday was made for me, people!

I’m also going through a bandana phase (which is embarrassing considering I’m not Bret Michaels) so I added a red one around my neck for a patriotic accent to this low-back, ruffled star blouse.

Enjoy the holiday and I hope the weather is better where you are!
