How I Styled My First Le Tote (Review)

Le Tote Review - BB Dakota shirt dressWoo! Don’t get me wrong—I love workout clothes and the fact that my career allows me to wear yoga pants every day of the week. But these “real” clothes posts are such a fun change for me. Believe it or not, I do enjoy pants with button closures from time to time (ha!).

I got the chance to try out Le Tote, which is kind of like having a sister who’s a personal stylist and lets you raid her closet each month. You rent clothes (with the option to buy at a discount) for as long as you want and then get a new batch whenever you return the first.

How Le Tote Works

You start by filling out your profile with size information and personal preferences and then you essentially start window-shopping the site. Whenever you see something you like, you click to add it to your virtual closet. Based on the items you’ve selected, a stylist will curate your tote (some items from your closet, some she/he picks for you).

The tote is $49/month and contains three garments and two accessories. You can wear them as long as you want and then either send the whole tote back when you’re ready for a fresh set, or chose to keep a few/all the items, which you can purchase at a discount. I’ve included prices with all the items I got so that you get an idea—some of the discounts for members are huge (up to 80% off retail!) and others are smaller.

Things I love about it:

  • They carry brands I’m familiar with—and love! Don’t get me wrong, I love discovering new brands, but it’s also nice knowing what to expect when you pay for a service. I felt confident in what I was getting because I know my size, how things will fit, and what quality of material I’d be getting just by the designers.
  • You can customize your tote. This is a new feature that I think is awesome: you can preview the tote your stylist has picked for you before it ships and switch out any items you don’t want or need.
  • No rush. Of course, you do have that $49/month timeline, but I love that you can keep things as long as you like before making the decision to swap or buy. If you picked something specifically for an event, or maybe just wanted to swap your items once the season changed, you have that wiggle room.
  • They take care of cleaning. You don’t have to wash items before sending them back, which is this slob’s dream come true. 😉

My First Le Tote Delivery

le-tote-review-7In a word: obsessed. Because my first tote was complimentary (yay blogging), all items I received were from my closet and I didn’t get any additional items selected by a stylist. So I can’t exactly say my stylist hit it out of the park but … I mean, I sure did (haha). I love everything! Let’s have a look:

BB Dakota Keenan Dress

Le Tote Review - BB Dakota shirt dressRetail: $88 | Le Tote Member Price: $64

Hello, new fall staple! I love this shirt-dress. It’s actually two layers—a sheer shirt and then a removable tank slip so that you can wear it together as a casual dress or without the slip lining, paired with leggings/pants to show a little bra underneath for date night or a night out. Le Tote Review - BB Dakota shirt dress Le Tote Review - BB Dakota shirt dress Le Tote Review - BB Dakota shirt dress

Max Studio Woven Drawstring Jogger

le-tote-review-12Retail: $88 | Le Tote Member Price: $44

The jogger trend is my favorite. Pairing them with heels and blazer creates a casually put-together look that I absolutely love. It’s like you just rolled out of bed but fell into some cute pumps and a jacket along the way.

Free People Distressed Hooded Jacket

Le Tote Review - Free People jacketRetail: $148 | Le Tote Member Price: $112

So … I have hoodies. I have jean jackets. I have denim vests. But I don’t have a hoodie-denim jacket in one, so really this was a necessary addition to my closet and you can’t tell me otherwise. Ok?!!

House of Harlow 1960 Arrow Collar Necklace

Le Tote Review - House of Harlow arrow necklaceRetail: $88 | Le Tote Member Price: $74

I love this necklace! It’s simple but reversible so that you can either show a little bling with rhinestone details or stay strictly metal (I prefer the metal).

Sondra Roberts Tassle Bamboo Bag

le-tote-review-9Retail: $80 | Le Tote Member Price: $64

I can’t possibly own enough crossbody bags. They’re so practical! If a bag doesn’t allow me to go hands-free, it will inevitably be lost along with all the contents of the bag. Can’t even count how many times that travesty has happened to me …

Summer & Sage LTD Antique Feather Bracelet

le-tote-review-13Retail: $28 | Le Tote Member Price: $24

I think bracelets are my favorite type of jewelry, maybe tied for first with rings. The irony is that 90% of bracelets don’t even fit me because I have the wrists of an infant. Cuffs like this are great because I can give them a little squeeze to tighten them. Other bracelets pictured are Lokai & Urban Outfitters.

Review of Stitch Fix #12

Stitch Fix Review - Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket & Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny JeanThis latest box of goodies means I’ve officially been Stitch Fixin’ for a year! There were a few duds in there, but by and large I’ve been SO pleased with each fix—seeing that box waiting for me at my apartment is like Christmas morning every time! My latest delivery was no different. I’m absolutely obsessed with the three items I kept, so cue the faux fashion blogging and basic betch slang words …

Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt Dress $68 = KEEPER

YASSSS. (I told you there would be basic betch slang words involved.) I’ve worn this dress like 17 times already. It can easily be dressed up or down, is comfortable, flattering, my favorite color—I just love it. Stitch Fix Review - Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt DressStitch Fix Review - Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt Dress & Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket Stitch Fix Review - Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt Dress

Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket $98 = KEEPER

I requested a denim jacket in this fix (for all you SF newbies, each month you can send your stylist a note requesting items or styles you want/need), and my girl Layla did not disappoint. I like that the denim is thin enough so that I can roll the sleeves, and the size makes it perfect for wearing on its own or over a hoodie. Stitch Fix Review - Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt Dress & Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket Stitch Fix Review - Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket & Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean Stitch Fix Review - Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket & Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean

Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean $98 = KEEPER

I also requested some white skinny jeans in this fix because the pair I currently own is completely stained (pretty standard—I don’t realize what a slob I am until I eat a meal while wearing white clothing). The fit of these is perfection, and while I’m not crazy about the hem on the crop (it’s a little wide rather than tapering as the ankle slims), cuffing them is a simple fix for that. Stitch Fix Review - Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket & Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean Stitch Fix Review - Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean Stitch Fix Review - Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean Stitch Fix Review - Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket & Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean Stitch Fix Review - Level 99 Lillian Distressed Crop Skinny Jean

Tart Zera Lace Bomber Jacket $108 = RETURN

stitch-fix-lace-jacketI wanted to like this jacket so, so bad. When I held it up, I was like “hell yes!” and then when I tried it on I was like “dangit.” It’s just a little too big for how I’d like to wear it. I envisioned pairing it with a tight crop top and distressed high-waist jean shorts or as a cover up on cool nights over a casual summer dress. If I were to layer a hoodie underneath it, it’d be the perfect size, but otherwise it’s just a bit too shapeless. Super cute though!

Loveappella Kellyton Mesh Shoulder Top $48 = RETURN

Stitch Fix ReviewThis top is cute and the material is ridiculously comfy, but I already have a few similar shirts. I love the sheer top with a sort of cap sleeve, but the horizontal hem at the top of the chest is never a flattering look for my girls.

This latest fix got me so excited, I switched my shipment frequency from every other month to every month–so I’ll have another post for you later in August (hopefully with a bunch more cute stuff!). If you’re new to the Stitch Fix game, you can check out the first post I did about the styling subscription service.

And I’ll leave you with a sneak peek of September’s cover of Vogue … Stitch Fix Review - Sweet Grey Zachary T-Shirt Dress & Mavi Kalie Bleached Denim Jacket

Have you gotten any good fixes lately? Which items would you have kept from my latest fix?

Stitch Fix Review (Fix #10)

Stitch Fix Review - Alessia SkirtI told myself that once I ran out of Stitch Fix credit (which I did), I would be pickier about what I kept and would only get fixes every other month. So what did I do? Scheduled a fix immediately and keep everything in it. Damnit, Nicole.

Juno Small Folded Clutch by Street Level ($38)

I think this will get a lot of use come wedding season. It’s small; the gold color will match any outfit if I’m wearing gold jewelry; and the delicate chain strap makes it fancy enough to be worn with a dress. Stitch Fix Review - Juno Small Folded Clutch & Lennon Top Stitch Fix Review - Juno Small Folded Clutch & Lennon Top

Alessia Skirt by Eight Sixty ($84)

I’m a sucker for unique pieces like this. I love the longer length mesh over the short lining—so fun! It’s actually a very feminine skirt, but for some reason I decided to pair it with an 80’s-inspired muscle crop and go a little more rock ‘n roll with it. It kinda works/I kinda look crazy, but I’m into it. Stitch Fix Review - Alessia Skirt Stitch Fix Review - Alessia Skirt Stitch Fix Review - Alessia Skirt Stitch Fix Review - Alessia Skirt

Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Blouse by Pixley ($54)

This will be a great wardrobe staple. A black, button-up blouse is something I can wear all the time and the sheer detail gives it a little personality. I also love the material—soft and light. Stitch Fix Review - Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Linden Sheer Detail Sleeveless Blouse

Deena Crochet Back Blouse by Daniel Rainn ($68)

Keeping this top was a no-brainer. Bright, colorful print and a crochet back—so perfect for the warmer months! Stitch Fix Review - Deena Crochet Back Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Deena Crochet Back Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Deena Crochet Back Blouse Stitch Fix Review - Deena Crochet Back Blouse

Lennon Top by Eight Sixty ($58)

The quality of this top sold me—the lining is a heavier, soft material—and the delicate sheer top layer makes it a good option for more formal occasions. Stitch Fix Review - Juno Small Folded Clutch & Lennon Top Stitch Fix Review - Juno Small Folded Clutch & Lennon Top Stitch Fix Review - Juno Small Folded Clutch & Lennon Top

Ok, I’m officially in Stitch Fix time-out after this one. I’ll be back in a few months with another of these posts, but in the meantime, you’ll be enjoying yoga pants and sneakers, my friends. 🙂

What do you think of this fix? Any favorite pieces? Get anything good in your own fixes recently?

If you want to request any of the items I’m wearing, you can send a note to your stylist or pin any of the images to the style board on Pinterest that you have linked to your Stitch Fix account. Pinned images should automatically pull the name of the piece into the description. All prices listed are before the 25% discount you’d receive from keeping all five items in your fix.
